Malaysian born James Hock graduated from Macquarie University, Sydney in 2000 with a degree in accounting. After performing a brief stint as an auditor, he moved to London simply because ‘he was bored’. As a host in London’s fringe club scene, he gained fame for his iconic looks and impeccable sense of style.

Self-taught, James enrolled in Kensington and Chelsea College to improve his technical skills. His early works attracted much attention and critical praise, unheard of for a local college student. As his final college project, he unveiled Sleeping with Dali, a heavily structured collection that has travelled across the pond, appeared on Nylon TV, was
exhibited in Shoreditch House and featured in numerous editorials, both local and international.

Admired by many, worn by the confident or defiant, his collections always reveal new possibilities in textures, shapes and proportions. His use of recycled material stems from his love of customising clothing and his experimentation with obscure or mundane objects is set to continue. James Hock produces most pieces in-house, if not, then locally in order
to fully control the final finish of his pieces. All artisanal
finishing is done in-house.
